Tray Exhibition

 

Tray is a project born out of a desire to creatively use and re-appropriate a number of 86cm x 72cm wooden paper trays. 14 artists have taken a tray each and applied their own thoughts and processes to them. These trays are now on show suspended and installed in four window frontages of shops otherwise left empty.

 

 

Accompanying the ‘Tray Exhibition’ are two related event based projects; ‘Art Swap’ and ‘Cacophony For Now’.  A common theme between these elements is the use of sampling and re-appropriation.

 

 

Art Swap

 

Make some art, take some art.

 

In the space hidden behind the Trays and boards in the SVA john street shop window ArtSwap is happening. Art Swap is a make and take project, Anyone can participate by coming to the space, taking a blank postcard and intervening with it in some way to change it and make it into an artwork (basic art materials will be in the space). Your new card artwork will then be stamped on the back, flat bed scanned and put into an online digital archive on our blog page. The card will then be tacked up with the cards already on the wall. In return for you contributing your card you can take someone else’s card from the wall and take it home. In this way each artist/ visitor both gives and receives an artwork and the rotation of the artworks becomes a changing exhibition. A number of Tray, Site and other artists are making a ‘float’ of cards to start us off on 30^th May.

 

 

 

‘Cacophony For Now’

 

'Cacophony For Now' is a performance based artwork by William Potter.  Using sampled music and a string quartet.

This will be performed on the street outside of SVA. 13th June at around 9pm between John Hegley and The Blessing.
